Q. how hot should the water be when you give your cat an enema?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema

neighbor said bootsy is behaving the way she is because she is constipated and that i should give her an enema and she would be fine. i think the unit i got at the chemists needs warming up in the micowave. any cat lovers who has done this?

Take the device back to the chemists.
Add some oil to the food - should work a treat. and if it doesn't then take her to the vet. I have seen this done with a GSD and believe me you do not want to be in the same room.

Personally I'd be suspicious of the neighbour who's probably going to get a real kick out of imagining you giving your cat an enema and will probably be checking you for injuries next time you meet !

Please don't do this! Take your poor cat to the vet if you suspect there is a problem!

If you haven't taken your cat to the vet, that is the place to start. IF an enema is what is needed, they will show you how to properly do it and you can do it after that if needed. You should never experiment with stuff like this if you've never done it before.

I don ;t think you should be doing this. Buy some miralex and you can put 1/4 tablespoon in the food or some senekot and give 1/4 tab 2x daily
None of this addresses why your cat has this problem. The reason most likely is the food you are feeding

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php

    Please read about cat nutrition.

It should just be warm, not hot. Heat it in the micro if you have too, shake it really well and then squirt a little on your wrist. If it feels hot, its too hot and could cause damage to your cat. When my cat gets constipated, I give him a baby laxative that is inserted in his rectum. I don't do enemas.

The vet is the only one to give an enema, there's no water used, they use a chemical specifically made for cats and it's not to be done by the cat owner.

I had one cat who needed to after she hadn't pooped in 4 days, the X-ray showed her intestine stretched in a straight line up to her heart, the intestine close to bursting. She was given the suppository and it all came out in 20 minutes. Poop everywhere which was a good thing I had her confined in the bathroom for that. I had to make sure all 12" had come out, call the vet back and update them.
