3.5 year old constipation issues?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

Morning all, to cut a long story short for months we've had hard poos, soft poos, tears in her bottom, enemas etc. I need to try and keep her poo soft so besides diet, has anyone got any ideas or useful tips? I've got the diet stuff taken care of but I bought some Coloxyl drops but I'm not sure they are right because most people on forums have had negative effects. The poor little kid is in such pain and now has a rash on her bottom which is making things worse! Anyone with any advice at all would be brilliant! thank you!
Thank you all so much. Have been to several doctors, specialists etc. They say its completely common and you need to just work it out as every child is different. I'll try all your suggestions as her diet with fibre, fuits, vege's, yoghurts, milk etc is very good and so is her exercise. We have even cut out cheese and bananas as apparently they can clog you up. Anyway, thank you all very much - much appreciated.

When a child does not eat enough fiber, drink enough liquids, or get enough exercise, constipation is more likely to occur. It also happens when children ignore the urge to have a bowel movement, which they often do out of either embarrassment to use a public bathroom, fear or lack of confidence in the absence of a parent, or unwillingness to take a break from play. Sometimes constipation is caused by medicines or a disease.

Prevention of Child Constipation

Diet — The most important thing is to increase fluid intake. However, some children get into the habit of only drinking sodas to satisfy their thirst. Most children are dehydrated from sugary drinks and from not taking the time out to quench thirst. Offer clean, pure water. A child should be drinking half of his/her body weight in water each day. Include servings of fresh, organic fruit and vegetables. Teach your child to eat raw as much as possible. Make 50% of each meal fresh, raw, unprocessed foods. Include whole grains, nuts and seeds in the diet. Limit white flour, chocolate, sugar, dairy and milk products. Train your child to eat slowly and moderately. Provide a relaxing environment while eating. Take a probiotic supplement such as Latero-Flora™ daily to facilitate the growth of “friendly bacteria” in the colon.

Bowel habit training — Your child should be taught not to wait to have a bowel movement. To establish a regular bowel habit, ask your child to sit on the toilet for at least 10 minutes at about the same time each day, preferably after a meal. Make sure your child can place his or her feet firmly on the floor while sitting on the toilet. If this is not possible, put a footstool in front of the toilet. While your child is sitting on the toilet, you might let your child read a storybook or listen to the radio. Educate your child, at an early age, on the importance of good bowel habits. Let them know that this is not something to be embarrassed about but a normal and very necessary function for good health.

Exercise — Make sure that your child is getting enough exercise. Children spend way too much time in front of computers and TV. Encourage outside activities as much as possible. Physical activity speeds the movement of waste through the digestive tract.

Stress — Yes, children experience stress! Children are some of the busiest people I know. Stress causes the body to break down and constipation can be a result. Talk with and spend time with your children. Teach them how to relax and to be calm. Encourage them, support them and speak encouraging words to them. Teach them how to handle difficult situations, to be happy and to communicate their problems. Most important—model this behavior in front of them.

Keep The Bowel Clean — Keeping the bowel clean is a great preventative step and very necessary in keeping the body in good health. For complete cleansing of the digestive tract we recommend a product called Oxy-Powder®. Oxy-Powder® is a safe and natural way to cleanse the whole digestive track while also providing the body with oxygen. Consult your healthcare practitioner for dosages appropriate for children.

Chiropractic Adjustments – Helps prompt bowel movements. The waves that move material through the colon occur as a result of nerve excitement that originates at the spinal nerves. Adjustments also help normalize the action of the ileocecal valve, the valve that separates the large from the small intestine.

I hope this helps you, check out the link, there is more information there!

I Need To Lose Weight NOW!! HELP……..?

Okay, My husband is in the Army and he is going to promotion school (PLDC) and I need to get rid of my bulging belly. I don't weight a whole lot about 120 but im only 4'11, so every bit shows.

I have 1 month exactly to get rid of this fat, im aiming at 95 pounds and you all my say thats to low of a weight but remember im only 4'11. I really don't care if it's an unhealthy way of losing weight, but any suggestions on how to, besides the enema's, and small portions.

Any tips on getting motivated to excercise, I plan on doing so very excessivly, 4 or 5 times a day for an hour or so.

Any workout methods I can do inside my home without having to go to a gym?

Someone PLEASE HELP…….

And if your going to bash me, don't bother opening your mouth, I could care less about my health, I just want to look good for my husband.

Dance your way out of those bulges. One way to enjoy. You can dance while stirring the pot…dance while washing the dishes…dance while scrubbing the floor…dance while cleaning the toilet…dance…dance…dance but stop dancing when you're eating in the dining table…or you'll be messed up. Good luck!!!!

Should I charge my grandma for administering her enemas, or just hope for a tip?

Giving your Grandma an enema is its own reward.

Golytely is NASTY any tips on how to drink it without throwing up?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

I am supposed to drink this before I go in for a hysterectomy tomorrow morning, but I keep gagging and getting nauseous a few times I almost threw up. Any ways to help get this stuff down? Also I am supposed to give myself and enema tonight before bed. Can I just use it tomorrow morning and skip the golytely all together since I can't get it down in large enough doses?
can anyone tell me why I need to cleanse my colon before a hysterectomy? I have friends who have had them and didn't have to do a colon cleansing.
OK, I figured it out. If you mix it with the broth you are allowed to have it is good and easy to get down. Sweet juice and salty mix do not go together, but the broth is already salty so masks the flavor. Yeah I am going now.

Try and strongly think about a white, cold and sterile landscape (north pole), and then armed with a minty under your tongue that you have sucked on for a couple of minutes take the drink. Try and not let your mind wonder away from what your thinking, and try whilst you are drinking this to think of something that you do like to drink. Keep repeating this mind activity over and over. Hope it works!!

any tips for child constipation??

my son is 6 and for the past 2 yrs he hasnt had regular bowel movements..he goes once…maybe twice a week…
i dont want to give him a bunch of laxitives or enemas…
and i try my best to give him the right amount of fruits/veggies.
just wondering if anyone knows of anything esle i might be able to do….thanks

Many people here gave good advice: Your son should continue to eat soluble fiber (fruits and veggies, oatmeal, brown rice, etc.) because insoluble fiber (bran cereals) actually can constipate people. He should also continue drinking plenty of water because eating fiber based foods without enough water will also constipate him. Because he is so young, you want to avoid the laxatives and enemas at this time. They may disrupt the good bacteria in his gut. If neither of these work, consider having him see a Herbal Practitioner or other Alternative Practitioner who can actually see him and talk to the both of you at length to see how they can help.

Does my cat still have constipation? Is his eye infection getting worse?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

I took my cat to the vet and they found a hard belly. They gave him a enema and he shot out whats been hurting him about 10 seconds later. 2 days has passed and he has blood in his stool. is this typical after an enema? He had a thermometer stuck up his butt then this enema and im thinking it was "rough" for him. I watched him poop and it looks like it hurts. sometimes he has drool coming out of his mouth when hes done. He wont eat or drink much, just hides in places. He also has an infected eye. They gave him meds for that but now he has this small black cloud forming below his iris. Is this a rash reaction to the medication or considered normal for most eye infections?

I think hes more sick than just constipated with an eye infection. Any tips would help. The Vet says if no improvement shows within 2 weeks to take him back.

Hi!His poops probably do hurt.Tuna juice in his food might help.
How much blood is he passing in his stool? If it is a small amount it is because his poor little bum is actually tearing a little bit to let the stool past. The same thing happens to humans.
If he is bleeding alot, like a teaspoon full or more, each time, he really should go see his vet sooner rather than later.
The drooling is normal; he is working hard to poop. He must drink, water is more important than eating for a day or 2. He just wont feel like it right now.
The dark spot on his eye could be few things… Dark clouds on the eyes is usually associated with blindness. BUT, it could also be a reaction to the meds. He should see the vet again for his eye soon. Stop giving him the meds until he sees the vet. If you cant see the vet until next week, call and talk to him or her on the phone and explain everything.
Hope it all works out! your cat needs extra love right now! Poor guy! Good luck! :o)

I have been constipated most of my pregnancy. I never ever try to force it out. It eventually will come on its own.
I have however found that every single time I eat pasta within 3 hours I get a bowel movement.

what can I do for a constipated puppy? she is almost 3 weeks?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

We took her to the vet today and he did a warm water enema. Tonight I can barely get her to eat her stomach is so bloated. She goes to the bathroom a little and has gas when I wirk with her but she acts like it hurts her when I massage her. Any breeder out there that might be able to give me some tips
She is only 3 weeks old. She is in a kennel by herself with a heating pad. The only thing she has eaten is puppy formula. she is only about 5 oz and is just starting to move around some

Did your vet x-ray her? She might very well have something STUCK in her, blocking stuff from moving through her intestines. Poor, poor baby. :( If she is just constipated, maybe laying her on a heating pad (on low heat) would ease her pain a little.
