Is it common to have an erection during CT scan?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

I had a CT scan last week and the lady technologist said the enema tip might “massage my prostate, causing me to have an erection.” When she put in the rectal contrast she then had me cough and felt my testicles at the same time to see if there was a hernia. Is this common practice?

niiiiiceeee. just sit back and enjoy

3.5 year old constipation issues?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

Morning all, to cut a long story short for months we've had hard poos, soft poos, tears in her bottom, enemas etc. I need to try and keep her poo soft so besides diet, has anyone got any ideas or useful tips? I've got the diet stuff taken care of but I bought some Coloxyl drops but I'm not sure they are right because most people on forums have had negative effects. The poor little kid is in such pain and now has a rash on her bottom which is making things worse! Anyone with any advice at all would be brilliant! thank you!

I have a 4 year old daughter who has trouble with bowl movements as well. She was recently at the ER because of her pain. Her doctor prescribed this powder stuff called GlycoLax. You mix it with her drink once a day. It is a prescription laxative. Then you can buy pediatric suppositories if need be. I hope this helps. I know exactly what you are going through.

Can I buy an apparatus to administer an enema more effective than what is generally available in U.S?"?

As an R.N. I find the hot water bottle with short tip inadequate and the plastic bucket used years ago in the hospital expensive and difficult to find.

Go to OptimalHealthNetwork.com and you'll find all kinds of enema equipment including different types of bags, larger nozzles, retention and inflatable nozzles and tubes which reach higher up into the colon. Good luck.

Can I take Imodium before labor?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

I am being Induced in 3 days and for the past couple of weeks I have had loose stools. Im not sure if it is diarrhea but I do get the upset stomach and feeling of I HAVE TO GO NOW!! I know that this can be a sign of labor but nothing yet! I really dont want to have to worry about having diarrhea during labor so is it ok for me to take imodium the day before and the day of labor? Does it make you constipated at all? I have heard of some hospitals not letting you go home until you made a bowel movement so I dont want to make myself constipated! So does this stuff really work that well? Also, I was reading about enemas so you dont go while pushing the baby out…are hospitals still doing this? Thanks to any and all answers/tips!

Please do not take immodium before labor…sorry, but it is stupid to be vain like that. I was in labor for my first child for 49 hours, and pushed for almost 2…I believe I poo-ed but TRUST ME….its not embarassing, after passing gas several times while the dr. is 'down there' and accidentally kicking the nurse in the head..it is something the doctors deal with on a regular basis…immodium can cause extra gas aswell…you will be a lot more comfortable if you just let "flow" Plus, if you are in labor, you may very well sit on the toilet…and if your there, if you've got loose bowels…just all the better:)

Why won't my 4-month old baby poop?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

My 4-month old baby won't poop. I have taken her into the ped several times for this. She is breastfed only right now. Her stools are soft. The ped said her anatomy is perfect, there is nothing wrong. Her muscles are a little tight down there, and the only way I can get her to poo is to use a q-tip every 3 days. The juice and caro syrup do nothing. The enema only gets a little bit out. She is happy and eating well. Am I just worrying about nothing here? I get nervous when she doesn't go every 3 days because I don't want her to be miserable. But I hate doing the q-tip thing and it's the only way she goes! Has anybody ever had this happen?

my daughter is 3- months old. at first i thought she was not eating enough, but the ped told me that breast feed babies may not go but once a week. she eats well, is happy and healthy. and she still does not go but maybe twice a week. and sometimes it is not impressive. do not worry.have you tried baby massage? just massage the belly area.or lay her over your left arm, head near the crook of your elbow, on her stomach, stomach in your hand and rub the stomach, the baby will fart dead in your face, but if anything is in there it is comming OUT. the q-tip thing would get me too. i hope that helps.

Constipation - stool too hard to pass. Help!?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

Hi everyone,

I've been taking Nexium for acid reflux for 2 weeks, and this past week one of its side effects has been really awful constipation. I've changed my diet to include lots of fibre, and even resorted to laxatives and a suppository to help things along.

I feel mostly clear, but there feels like one stubborn stool that is absolutely solid inside my rectum, and no matter how much I push/strain (I know I shouldn't), it just won't budge. In fact, it gets to the point where I stop because pushing it out causes too much pain, like I'm gonna tear something down there

Tomorrow will be my third day without a proper bowel movement and I'm getting a bit worried. I guess the doctor is the next step? What will they do?

I'll consider colon cleansing or an enema, but that won't happen until next week at least.

The whole thing's just incredibly uncomfortable, I can't function properly to do anything… so any tips and advice would be great.

Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the answers so far, guys. I've tried laxatives already… they seem to flush poop past the solid stool, while it stays firmly in place.

Re: the stool softeners, how long will they take to work? A few days I read, don't know if I can take it that long! It's quarter to midnight here now and I'm dreading another night of sleeping with this.
Re: bucket in the bath… Thanks, although somewhat disgustingly, I've already attempted to poke around and break up some of the stool… but it's too far up to reach.

eat bran-flakes, drink orange juice and eat soups only, stay away from bananas they bind you, you should shift it within a day

If you are not on medication currently, I would see a gastroenterologist about prescribing something for your UC, because 4 to 6 loose stools a day is a bit more than I would expect to see for someone as baseline. If your GI told you this was as good as it could get (before exhausting all of your medicinal options), you might want to look into finding a GI who specifically specializes in inflammatory bowel diseases.

Both the pain and the loose stools can be reduced by cutting back on stimulants and foods that are the most difficult to digest. The following are foods/drink that are most often problematic:
-Alcoholic drinks
-Caffeinated food/drinks (coffee, tea, colas, chocolate)
-Popcorn
-Starchy raw fruits and vegetables, particularly those that are stringy (celery, lettuce, cucumbers are the types of things I find patients have the most problem with)
-Popcorn
-Nuts
-Really processed or glutenous bread products (too much white bread, and most notoriously matzoh or crackers). They are like glue in the bowel.

Additionally, you might want to *try* separately eliminating lactose or gluten, b/c lactose or gluten intolerance can be masked by your other symptoms, and thus not diagnosed in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.

Also, chew ALL foods really thoroughly, especially anything that falls into one of the earlier categories (like if you can't help but eat nuts), chew the heck out of them.

Some of my patients find it helpful to eat smaller, more frequent meals and/or keep from eating too close to bed time (if abdominal pain is a greater problem for you at night when you are trying to fall asleep).

Good news: the iron supplements can be constipating, which might be a welcome side effect for you.

You can try adding probiotics, either in food or as a prescribed supplement to ease digestion (lessen cramps) and stool looseness.

Make sure you are getting enough fluids. Although it can mean more stools per day, it might reduce the cramping.

Warm baths can ease bowel pain by relaxing the muscles. Some of my patients claim this reduces urgency, so maybe taking one before school/work, and/or trying a heating pad on your abdomen at work might do something for you.

Of course, each person's experience is different, so I strongly encourage you to find forums for UC (and try suggestions for Crohn's disease, too) to get other people's suggestions…something may work for only two people, but if you're one of the two, you'll be glad you tried it!

Constipated cat & water…?

Posted by: Peg  :  Category: Enema Tips

My cat got an enema today, and has shown no further results at home. She may have to have another one, but she is on laxatose or what not so hopefully she will improve with that.

She was dehydrated. I was curious, how to get her to drink more water? I set up more water stations around my apartment with different types of bowls (maybe she would prefer a different type) but that is about all I came up with.

How do you get your cat to drink more water? And do you have any tips for a constipated cat, I know of vegetable oil & pumpkin.

cats do not have a strong thrist drive as in the wild they get most of their moisture from a kill. You should definitely feed wet food daily as your cat will get some of it's water from this, also you can add a little water to make a gravy, or just buy the wettest food you can. The pouched food usually has lots of gravy in it. You can also buy one of those water dishes that has a little water fountain…this seems to get interested in drinking more water, or see if your cat will drink out of the sink. My cat really likes it and I get more water down her this way as she too does not drink much out of her bowl. Do make sure you provide fresh water on a daily basis…I notice my cats are more likely to drink when I change it daily.

suggested cat water dish or something similar:
